Food For Thought Regarding Deregulation
I think, if we have not already, we can glean that John McCain is not the guy to steer the ship back to economic recovery. Perhaps Barak Obama is not either, but I would feel more comfortable with a person who is not mostly concerned with making it easier for his already wealthy buddies to become wealthier by cooking the books and shooting craps with my mother's 401k. As late as a few weeks ago, McCain was still babbling about needing more deregulation in the financial system and not so brightly touting the root strength of our economy.
Why would we want people who essentially answer to know one and may hold their own greedy interests a little higher than their customers in control of our financial futures? Would it not seem prudent that they be accountable at all times and are held to a standard since they are the stewards of so many people's financial lives? Just because someone wears a suit doesn't mean they are not a criminal. It may just mean they are a smarter criminal who happens to be living the high life off of your blood, sweat and tears.
Would we deregulate South Central Los Angeles? Would we abolish all laws and let the gangs that control the area run wild? Of Course not. From what I can gather from John McCain, he thinks that criminals should be allowed to police themselves, but only the ones that work on Wall Street. At least that was what he was saying three week ago, as you know now, he has changed his tune because he knows that is what you want to hear and hopefully will save his political neck.
